PEGASUS THEORY
An everything label for the post-everything era
Russian Blue - A Modern Analogue
A Modern Analogue is an album’s album in an era of made-for-singles music. Falling firmly into the disco punk, or indietronica genres (with an undeniable soundalike in early LCD Soundsystem); what separates this record is its reverence for moments and motifs. Arrangements move through songs theatrically, with unconventional structures and record-spanning musical themes that outline an emotional journey over its entire runtime.
Lyrically over its nine tracks, A Modern Analogue is about the artist’s relationship to creating and performing art while struggling with shame, self-doubt, and inherited, generational trauma. The narrator explores these themes in continual, direct conversation with the listener; offering, at one point, “that quid pro quo chorus you’re owed for listening” while, in the next track, admitting “this song’s more for me than for you”.
